Learning the Qur’an: The Online Model
The Qur’an teacher is not just like any other teacher; he is more like a mentor, guide, and role model.

The Solutions: The Qur’an Teacher (1)
After discussing the main challenges related to teaching the Qur’an in the post-AI era in the previous articles, this article sheds light on possible solutions.
It has become clear after the initial discussion that we cannot seek a comprehensive and inclusive solution outside the triangle of the learning process: the teacher, the student, and parents. This article is dedicated to discussing the solutions related to the teacher.
Who is the Qur’an teacher?
The Qur’an teacher is not just like any other teacher; he is more like a mentor, guide, and role model. The sublime and highly elevated nature of the Qur’an is reflected in the figure of the teacher in the first place. The Qur’an teacher becomes the window through which students know about Islam and personalize what they learn in their daily lives. The Qur’an teacher becomes a role model for his students, not just a teacher who teaches them lessons, but an influencer who can change their lives for the better. In this regard, Qur’an teachers should understand this spiritual mission very well because understanding entails what knowledge and attitude they should seek to acquire. The Qur’an teacher should internalize the idea and embrace the feeling that they are doing the job of the Prophet. They teach the Qur’an and spread knowledge about Islam, helping students to connect with the book of Allah.
What qualifications should Qur’an teachers have?
Therefore, Qur’an teachers should acquire certain qualifications to be able to deliver this spiritual message. First of all, they should have the required knowledge to teach Tajweed and Tafseer of the Qur’an in addition to general knowledge of the different branches of Islamic sciences. Moreover, teachers should have the right attitude and character as they represent Islam in the first place. Qur’an teachers should embrace the manners and ethics of the Qur’an, and they should be able to communicate this consciously and subconsciously to their students. Also, teachers should be able to communicate efficiently with their students using technology and innovative techniques in the classroom.

What do we do in Tanzeel?
In Tanzeel, we have meticulous and academic criteria for hiring and developing our teachers in a way that reflects our mission and vision. In Tanzeel, we look up to our teachers as partners and family members of the big Tanzeel family, which we foster and support unwaveringly. Since Tanzeel started in 2011, we still have almost the first generation of teachers participating in connecting people to the book of Allah. And throughout the years, our hiring policy has never changed, since quality is a must that we cannot compromise. First of all, the teacher should be a highly qualified professional with Ijazzah in at least one recitation of the Qur’an. General knowledge of Tafseer, Fiqh, Hadeeth, Aqeeda, and other branches of Islamic sciences is another prerequisite. At the level of language teaching, our teachers must have at least an intermediate certificate/ training in the English language to communicate their knowledge efficiently to their students. Most importantly, Tanzeel teachers should have the right attitude for being mentors and advisors to their students, to be more than a regular/average teacher. This means that the teacher should possess an innovative, proactive, engaging, and creative character, in addition to mastering soft skills, to facilitate productive and effective communication.
And lastly, since we are discussing the post-AI era and the online model, having a technological capacity is a must for all teachers to maintain. Teachers should be able to use technology in the classroom in a way that keeps the classes engaging and interactive.
Theoretically speaking, these requirements seem awesome. But how many teachers have these qualifications? How many of them have all of these requirements combined? And how can we maintain that our teachers’ knowledge is updated and enhanced throughout the years? The answer to all of these questions and more will be in the next article, where we discuss how Tanzeel has applied this theory about teachers’ training in practice.
